Martin Gramc is a LGBTIQ+ activist, researcher and writer from Slovenia. He received his MA in Gender Studies at the University of Ljubljana. During the past five years, he has actively participated in LGBTI+ organizations and campaigns at home, in Croatia and in Germany (Berlin), where he also collaborated with feminist and migrant initiatives. As a researcher, Martin has been collaborating with the Peace Institute in Ljubljana, working on projects centred around migrant issues, LGBTIQ+ minorities, and topics in political philosophy.
Martin commenced a 34-month Marie Skłodowska Curie fellowship at the University of Zurich in Switzerland in January 2021. Martin successfully defended his PhD on December 13, 2023.

12 June 2023: Llubljana City Hall: Dilemmas related to the medical care of intersex children

19 May 2023: Research for Intersex Justice
ESRs Audrey Aegerter, Martin Gramc and Ernesto Zelayandia, along with PI David Paternotte participated in a round table event organised in Brussels. Ernesto, Audrey, Martin, Mauro Cabral and Charly Derave spoke about their research and expertise in the field. Approximately 10 people attended – mainly academics and intersex activists. 26 September 2022: Stakeholder Event at University of Malta, Valletta Campus
During the sixth INIA network event held at University of Malta, Valletta, INIA PIs and ESRs participated in a stakeholder conference. This was a very successful event attended by approximately 40 people from the University of Malta and from the Maltese government. The programme for the event can be found here.
16 December 2021: Presentation during Research Colloquium at the Institute of Bioethics and the History of Medicine
ESRs Martin Gramc and Daria Abrosimova presented their scoping reviews to other PhD candidates at the University of Zurich. The title of the presentation was: Medicine, stigma, society: How bioethical studies could improve the human rights of intersex people? The presentation was well attended and followed by an animated question and answer session.

September 14, 2023: British Sociological Association Conference
On September 14th, Martin Gramc and John Stephenson gave the presentation “A shift towards the social? Intersex minors and psychosocial care in Europe” at the British Sociological Association conference (https://www.britsoc.co.uk/events/key-bsa-events/bsa-medical-sociology-conference-2023-sussex/). The presentation took place at the University of Sussex in Brighton and the talk was attended by approximately ten people.
August 29-September 1, 2023: European Identity Summer School
Martin Gramc participated in the Summer School – Identity of Europe at the Inter-University Centre in Dubrovnik (https://iuc.hr/programme/992). On Friday, September 1st, Martin helped with the presentation “The Genealogy of Intersex and the Cultural Wars.” Around 10 people atteeded the session and discussed his work.
August 23-26, 2023: 35th ESPMH Conference
Martin Gramc took part in the 35th Conference on Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare which was held in Riga, Latvia from 23rd – 26th of August. Martin gave a presentation on the 24th of August called Boundary Work in the Health Care for people with variations of sex characteristics in Europe. PI David Paternotte was the chair of the panel and Cynthia Kraus (UNIL) was the discussant. The event was open to academics (PhDs, postdocs, professors etc…) working on topics of Gender and Politics.
